Abbreviation Code

To aid you in evaluating the quality of slides in the listings,
the following three-letter abbreviations may be inserted if appropriate
in descriptions of slides. Please note that time and space limits their use,
and in most cases your quality evaluations should be based primarily on
the slide quality rating shown near the end of each slide description.

I encourage everyone to adopt and use these abbreviations!

BKB ~ Locos coupled back-to-back
BRS ~ Broadside, flat-on view of subject
CDY ~ Cloudy, overcast light
CLT ~ Cluttered area around loco
CRW ~ Crew or other folks in line-of-sight
CTH ~ Thin color, over-exposed or faded
DLO ~ Loco somewhat distant but lettering is all legible
DLV ~ Loco very distant, can't read lettering
DOC ~ Cab door ajar
DOH ~ Hood or side door ajar
DON ~ Nose door or hatch ajar
DPT ~ Dirty, grimy paint
EKT ~ Ektachrome, processed by Kodak
ELV ~ View from some elevation. overpass or hillside
FCP ~ Front-coupled
FPT ~ Faded, dull paint
GLR ~ Sun glare on subject
GLX ~ Broken headlight glass, windows, etc
HIS ~ High sun, sides shaded
LHV ~ View from long hood end
LSI ~ Left side view of loco
LUP ~ Lash-up (two or more locos mu'd)
MAR ~ Scratch, scuff or mar on film
NPK ~ Kodachrome but not processed by Kodak
NSH ~ Front of subject in shadow
NSY ~ Nosy, more head-on view
OBJ ~ Distracting object between camera and subject
PLB ~ Poles, towers clutter background
PPT ~ Peeling or chipped paint
PSH ~ Pole or other shadows on loco
REV ~ View looking toward rear of loco
RMT ~ Slide remounted in plain mount
SCD ~ Scenery, background dominate picture
SCR ~ In scrapline or dead-in-transit
SNG ~ Snow on ground but not on loco
SOF ~ Slightly soft-focus or speed-blur
SUP ~ Single unit Diesel or steam/tender portrait
TEL ~ Telephoto lens shot
TIC ~ Tightly cropped or framed subject, small part of pilot may be clipped
TSH ~ Trucks or driving wheels in shadow
UNX ~ Under-exposed, dark
VER ~ Vertical format slide
WDS ~ Weeds obscure part of subject
WEG ~ Wedge shot, classic "V" perspective
WSH ~ Wire shadows on subject
XXX ~ Photographer's name has been deliberately crossed-out by previous owner
