William McChesney **
Deceased
Raised in New Jersey, Bill began railfanning back
in the 1930's
as the Golden Age of Railroading was just building a full head
of steam.
He started shooting color with his trusty Leica in the late 1930's,
relatively early compared to most other railfans. Thus he was
able
to capture such prizes as a Lehigh Valley Diesel in the Valley's
vintage grey/red/yellow paint scheme.
Primarily interested in steam action, Bill traversed the U.S.
and Canada.
He moved to Connecticut where he was employed as a design engineer
for
Scoville, manufacturer of faucets and plumbing equipment. He retired
to
Martha's Vineyard in the early 70's remaining a dedicated rail
enthusiast
(All my life! he happily proclaimed) until his passing
at age 97.
Mr. McChesney and his photographic records were instrumental in
the publication of a fine color rail book on the Ontario &
Western
published by Morning Sun.
Our thanks to Bill's good friend,
Paul Lubliner, for this information.
Please e-mail
any additional biographical information we may post for this
